ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, is a condition that appears commonly in children. This condition makes it difficult for children to focus on important activities, such as schoolwork.

The symptoms of ADHD vary but may include an inability to pay attention, inability to sit still, impulsive action, and poor grades in school. There are many possible underlying causes of ADHD.

If a parent suspects that his or her child may be showing signs of ADHD, Well-Rooted Pediatrics will begin the evaluation by taking an in-depth history about the child’s symptoms, environment, family history and medical history, in order to detect possible underlying triggers. We will also spend some time with the child to observe their behavior.

Well-Rooted Pediatrics uses the Connor Questionnaire as a tool to determine whether a child can be properly diagnosed with ADHD, and when a more functional approach is desired, we can run advanced testing to determine underlying triggers of the ADHD condition.

Some of the most common medications used for this purpose include stimulants, non-stimulant ADHD medication, and anti-depressants. The functional medicine or holistic approach encompasses nutrition and lifestyle recommendations, along with customized lab testing and supplements.
